The Winter Festival and Pitha Puli Fair 1431 have begun at University of Rajshahi  (RU). The fair started on January 16 (Thursday) at the Sabas Bangladesh Ground of the university and will run until January 18.
Organized by the university’s music organization ‘Campus Bawaliyana’ for the third time, the event is sponsored by ‘Real Star Properties Limited’. The fair features a variety of activities, including a pitha-puli stall, displays of local foods and products, and cultural performances. A major attraction of the event is performances by various university music groups, as well as top Baul, folk, and qawwali artists from across the country.
Mahbub Hossain, a student from the 2022-23 academic year, said,
I am truly impressed by today’s Pitha Puli Fair. It feels great to be introduced to our country’s culture. Pitha-puli is not just food; it’s a reflection of our tradition and culture. The taste of the pitha and the atmosphere of the fair are wonderful, and everyone is really enjoying themselves.
Sharmin Akter, a student from the 2020-21 academic year, said, “Participating in such cultural events at the university is truly a great experience. As we enjoy the pitha-puli, we are sharing joy with each other, and it feels amazing. Being part of this fair today makes us feel united.”
Event organizer Ashfaq Adi said
Bangladesh is a land of thirteen festivals. As part of these festivals, the third edition of the Winter Festival and Pitha Puli Fair has been organized by Rajshahi University’s band ‘Campus Bawaliyana.’ Through this event, we want to introduce our history and heritage to the younger generation.
The fair was inaugurated by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Saleh Hasan Nakib. He stated,
The event has been well organized. I hope everyone will pay attention to maintaining law and order. Since I don’t believe anyone is sitting here eager to hear speeches, I won’t prolong my remarks. I am confident that our students and everyone present here will greatly enjoy the event.
It is noteworthy that this year’s fair features around one and a half hundred stalls, with participation from university students and entrepreneurs from the Rajshahi division. The members of Campus Bawaliyana have stated that the tradition of Bengali culture will continue through such events.
